Enthusiasm was down among white people of both parties. But not among AA and Latino and Asian voters, all of whom seem to have felt an existential threat emanating from the GOP.

    I wonder why, Karl?

Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?

    •  Yeah that's the part confusing to me so (0+ / 0-)

almost 12 million white Americans stayed home? That's weird.  I'd love to know why and how that happened.

        Disaffected Republican voters:

Lifelong R voters disgusted by the GOP candidate or current GOP party, who just stayed home rather than vote for Obama.

People who tended Republican but who realized that voting for Romney was cutting their own economic throat.

People turned off by negative campaigning. So many people say they are turned off by negative campaigning:  it is surprising that it is so successful.

        Other reasons:

        People in the disaster zone.

        Disaffected Democratic voters:

People for whom Obama is insufficiently liberal.

The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next. --Mignon McLaughlin
