  •  Oh come on, we all know what's coming (6+ / 0-)

In the name of "fiscal responsibility" and in a spirit of "bipartisanship", Obama and Dems are going to give Repubs 90% of what they want. I had some hope that they'd stand firm after this election, but with Schumer's comments and Obama's "maybe they'll like me now" 2am call, I can now see that it's going to be the same old cave to the Repubs' demands all over again.

Dems don't fight. They just don't. If this changes, it'll be after the new congress gets sworn in, as a more progressive Dem caucus pressures the leadership and Obama to hold tight. And that will take a while.

Hopefully, the coming cave will be temporary, 6 months to a year. But it's coming. Don't delude yourselves otherwise. This is how Dems roll. Obama too.

    •  Dems do fight (0+ / 0-)

      We fight.

But we need to focus on the real enemy this time and that enemy is GOP obstructionists.  The pressure needs to be applied more to the GOP and not the leadership and Obama.  We have to step up and show him that we're willing to hold the GOP's feet to the fire.

      •  Exactly how are you going to do that? (1+ / 0-)

And are you in congress or work for someone who is? "We" are not "them".

        •  How do we hold the GOP's feet to the fire? (0+ / 0-)

That's the question we need to answer.  That's the real challenge here.

          •  I'd think we've had enough time to ponder that (2+ / 0-)

I know how, though. Organize a tea party-like movement against the GOP and their corporate backers, but more mainstream than OWS. Ideally it would be coordinated with OFA, but if they're not willing to help for fear of looking too "partisan" (which I always thought was stupid, because the essense of politics is partisanship leading to principled compromise), we can do it alone.

    •  That is exactly the reason you let it blow up. (1+ / 0-)

      No one disses a president.

It is very easy to play this card.  If the republicans don't come in with a proposal, the tax cuts expire.

      Put the onus on them.

Grow a set, Mr. President.  They should be brass by now.

But to respond to your comment, I suspect that Obama fears being blamed for going over the "cliff", and that Repubs know this, which is why they're willing to let us go over it, because they believe he'll cave before we do.

You're describing what Obama SHOULD do. I'm describing what I fear Obama WILL do. He's simply not a good negotiator. He's terrified of real conflict. I don't think I'm misusing the word "terrified". I truly believe he's terrified of it. He talks tough, but in the end, if unpressured, always caves. Always.

        •  We don't refer to "what" here? (0+ / 0-)

If you're referring to "brass", if it's good enough for Bill Clinton at the convention in front of everyone, it's good enough for KOS.  Don't make up your own rules kovie.

If you're personally offended, let me know and I'll modify responses to you in the future.

Now, otherwise, I agree with you.

MB and others have emphatically said that you can't use this term here, period, and will get banned if you do so anyway once made aware of it.

Spine, backbone, guts, etc., yes, the other things, no.

            Look it up.
