  •  Democrats Accepted a Compromise w/ Repubs (6+ / 0-)

in '08.  Unfortunately for them, Republicans backed away from their positions and the points they'd already agreed to, AND away from their own originating proposals in order to retreat farther to the right.

President Obama now has the Republicans between a rock (of the Republicans' own making) and a hard place (his promise to veto any bill that does not kill the Bush tax cuts on the +$250K incomes).

He must tell the Republicans and Sen. Reid must hold the Senate Democrats to the position that we will not compromise further than we had in '08.  That is the starting place.

Republicans must be forced to compromise in our direction now, since their starting place represents a compromise for Democrats.  The only entitlement that Democrats should consider reducing is farm subsidies.  Look at the electoral map.  All the red belongs to farmers who were promised by Republicans that their subsidies would be protected.

Hold firm.  Any driving over any cliff will be because Republicans are behind the wheel.
