Than serving MA as its senator. And honestly, his "duty" to the Democratic Party isn't something he should concern himself with. He has been there for us, and we have been able to count on him to protect our rights as women, as minorities, as workers, as newcomers to this country, and as inhabitants of this our planet.

    His Third-party evaluations speak volumes.

The facts are that Iran is nearing crisis point; Syria is waging war on its own people; Russia is playing fast and loose; the EU is still a financial mess that can drag us down with it; and there  is always a bigger crisis around the next corner, and State Department personnel are trying to recover from an incredible loss and need a strong experienced leader, America deserves the best SOS we can put in that position.

And frankly, if President Obama (who, you might recall left HIS senate seat mid-term when he won the presidency) chooses Senator Kerry for the position, then politics be damned.

    •  I am sure Kerry will weigh all of these issues (0+ / 0-)

      if offered the job

but ambition understandably would also factor in

and then we WILL HAVE SENATOR BROWN ONCE AGAIN

it's almost a sure thing. there is no good Dem to run against him and run I bet he will. And I think too many in MA will feel good electing him...as people hate kicking people out of their job they didn't hate Brown enough. He's hard to hate only ardent Dems hate Brown (some of them).
Most MA residents are NOT hardened Dems...they are center or center left but pride selves for putting person over party.

So, whenever we discuss this it should not be with "heck it's MA they'd probably elect some Dem to the seat anyway"

not now. Not with Brown waiting in the wings.

the best person for the job. To me he is not a stand out choice for SOS. He is acceptable, but not head and shoulders above everyone else.

The concept is: "First do no harm."

There are other qualified candidates who would not cause the loss of a US Senate seat.

If the Democrats lose a Senate seat, their ability to enact a progressive agenda will be decreased. In my opinion that is not an acceptable outcome.
