  •  They'll try to appeal to the 'good ones.' (9+ / 0-)

Y'know, the Latinos who speak without an accent, who aren't too dark-skinned.

The real enemy of the good is not the perfect, but the mediocre.

      •  My kid is half Latino (6+ / 0-)

and about half Jewish. He's got blonde hair and is fair complected. In a few years, he'll be voting. If you ask him, he'll generally say he's white. But if you speak negatively about Latinos, he'll get very, very, very upset because his father is Latino (also can pass as white).

He's going to be a lifelong Democratic voter without a doubt too. He can't STAND racism.

There are a TON of Latinos who don't even self-identify as Latino here in California because we're ethnically very mixed up. And we're one of the Bluest of Blue states.

The very act of trying to figure out who is Latino reminds me of the old racist "one drop" model of race. Food for thought for all those with Latino heritage ;) Latinos aren't all dark-skinned with some thick accent eating tacos. Many are completely impossible to distinguish from white people, yet still identify as Latino. Like Jewish folks. The GOP's hope here relies specifically on being able to micro-target who they see as "different." And that is, on its face, plain old racism!

Vote YES on Prop. 30, California!!!! Yes on 30, No on 32 & 38. For the future of education. (Oh look at that. Yes We Did!)
