    If he gets a deal done that includes any measure of tax increases then he will have to do it before Jan. 1st. But that means he has to do it before the GOP caucuses and elects their leadership for the next Congress. Such a deal will almost assuredly have to be passed with a majority of Dems (plus a handful of sane Republicans to make up the difference). That means Boehner will have to face his caucus immediately after he pisses them off.

    He will not only lose the gavel, he will likely lose any power to influence any legislation in the future. Which means he will most likely have to resign.

    But if he doesn't make a deal, the only hope he has is to make it seem like Obama is the one to blame. Yet it is Obama who just got re-elected on a platform of tax hikes.

    I think we may be seeing the final days of John Boehner.
