  •  To tell the truth, (5+ / 0-)

neither do I. I communicate via email or one of the young'uns or r to do it on their cell phones. Have a coffee can attached to the garden gate post just for cell phones, with a notice that those are not allowed in the garden. Research has demonstrated that a cell phone within 15 feet of a tomato plant sends it into stress response. I apply that across the board...

Still, an overabundance of iPhones in these environs, where you have to hike to the top of the driveway to get any service. Go figure. §;o)

    •  Heh (5+ / 0-)

I know in one email I got from your hubby he was sitting in the car, (in the rain iirc) waiting for a call.

Hubby and kids all have cell phones for emergencies but the daughter is the only one that ever has hers on.  The rest are only on once it a blue moon when they need help or if a long distance call needs made.

I personally don't want one.  I like people not being able to get ahold of me every minute of the day.

      •  Well, I do turn mine off when (5+ / 0-)

      •  We had a land line for the first 10 years (5+ / 0-)

we lived here. For the last 3 years of that they'd buried the line instead of floating it on the utility poles. Every time the railroad graded the front section of our driveway (very steep), they'd cut the line. Finally gave up and went cellular, there's plenty of towers around. Line-of-sight issues in this mountain hollow render them useless unless you get to a rise - ridge or driveway.

We laugh. It's not like they'll ever be running cable TV or natural gas lines to our homestead. Satellite access is getting better...
