  •  Thanks egarratt. I love it when folks quote (8+ / 0-)

    something I wrote.

I alway feel great but brief moment, and then for some reason, I always remember that old movie where Marlon Brando says "I could have been a contender."

Then I burst out laughing, and then remember another little memory fragment of him dropping to his knees saying "Steellllaaaa!"

Which I don't even think is from the same movie.  On the Water Front? A Street Car Named Desire? A Glass Menagerie?

Always the same, what could it mean?  And, I'm not on drugs or anything. Maybe I should visit one of those state where they have medicinal marijuana and I could bring back these memories and achieve greater personal insight?

lol.  This probably means I should go back into therapy.

There was one time long ago, where someone had slipped me one of those medicinal brownies without telling me, and I was reading this really long quote, going into great detail arcane topic,  but forgot what it was, and I starting thinking "Dang, this guy is so smart - I wish I could write like that, instead of being one of this math-science guys."

Turned out it was something I had written long ago, and forgotten.

So, I always get double chuckles, and wistful feelings about getting old too fast, whenever I see anyone quoting my writing. Especially, if I was really cranked up, and start using strings of 3 or 5 adjectives in or row, or have sentences that go on for 10 or 15 lines, like some German translation of Goethe.

Thanks for making on old dog laugh.

    •  Brando Trivia (5+ / 0-)

"I coulda been a contender" is from On the Waterfront

"Stelllllaaa" is from A Streetcar Named Desire

My fav is from The Wild Ones - when asked, "what are you rebelling against?  "What have you got?"

      •  Thanks. That's what I sort of thought. Funny (0+ / 0-)

thing is I don't think I ever actually saw the original movies, but rather saw so many references and allusion, or maybe even out-takes that they have crept into my mind while I wasn't really paying that much attention.

Cuz usually my memory is pretty good.
