  •  the "these people" picture may be our projection (12+ / 0-)

I live in mid coastal Maine where except for wearing Romney stickers on their chests the population is a lot like that in the photo. The most important characteristic of that photo is that "those people" are not at home watching the game on TV, they are at a meeting sitting on hard chairs giving their attention to a speaker.

In this election Warren, Maine; home to individuals who might wear Romney stickers and decorate their parlors with the Obama Care poster illustrated above, voted to support marriage equality and marijuana.

Mainers are predominantly white, and elderly, many or most of them are "christian", but women in Maine, with some notable exceptions, have a tendency to be independent.

The devoutly held precepts of their reverence can produce both a woman I canvassed who informed me that Todd Aiken had apologized so she forgave him; and the wife of a Jehovah's Witness who makes the rounds with her husband but just sits in the car while he talks to people (apparently feeling women should be neither seen nor heard).

That said at times it seemed that most of the women in Knox County Maine were in the Democratic headquarters in Rockland diligently going through lists of voters until every single one was crossed out as voted.
