... has been playing the sexual futures market, their natural reaction is to freak out emotionally.

At which point they might say something, particularly to the media ("Mizz Petraeus, tell us how you feeeeeel about your husband having an affair"), that appears harmless enough but may be significant:

"Oh, so that's what he was doing in London that weekend!"

When in fact he was on an official trip and it was a major secret, and now she's just compromised a secret without even realizing it.  (And yes she should be forgiven for that, morally as well as legally.)

    See how that works?

And if you're the desk officer who is responsible for personnel security issues, and an adultery case crosses your desk, you have every reason to immediately assume that the worst has happened:

    1)  It was a honeypot.

    2)  Major leakage of secrets.

    3)  Spouse will freak out and say stuff.

It becomes a multiple-alarm fire in no time at all, triggering a complete review of every single thing that could have been compromised.

All because some guy felt his friggin' penis was the most important thing in the world.  Penis penis penis, hell with national security.  Penis penis penis, hell with the family.  Penis penis penis, who cares if a bunch of subordinates have to scurry to clean up the security risks.  Penis, penis, penis, and more penis.  Shit.

Excuse me while I throw up.

Now we've got our future back.
