that could actually work, it's been done with all of American immigrant groups by them becoming "white"

Yeselson calls for Republicans to side with black voters against Latino voters -- and I don't see the current Republican party courting black voters, since many of their turnout strategies are based on dog whistles like welfare and food stamps. Simply put, their base would freak.

From the voters' perspective, I do not see black voters as up for grabs, given that the Democrats just delivered the first black president. There is work to be done on unemployment, infrastructure, drug war, and civil liberties issues, to be sure -- but the Democrats are on the right side of all those subjects, while the Republicans are consistently in the wrong.

More likely, Republicans try to peel off latino voters like Bush in 2004. Will it work? probably not, but its their best shot.

Their anti-marriage equality strategy was about co-opting the black church-goers.  Can we now say Republican party = Insanity, using the "doing the same thing over" definition?

    •  This is exactly the strategy they will go to next (0+ / 0-)

I've already seen it suggested on the Free Republic. The Social Conservatives and the Libertarian/Corporatist wing of the party appear to be locked in a death spiral. Neither can do without the other.

If they're unable to moderate themselves and win over members of our coalition with policy, they must divide our coalition.

I have no idea how to defend against it, but I am convinced this is the short-term strategy because it's easier than all the others and it's been proven to be a historical winner.
