    The Bible's actually rather split on the whole issue, the overall message being, "Drinking is okay, but don't get smashed, puke, and act like an ass."
    I agree. The Bible says "do not be drunk with wine", but it depends on what you mean by "drunk". There's just no reason to think Jesus turned water into juice when it says wine. At a wedding feast, people were going to drink wine, and get at least somewhat tipsy, and this level of drinking seems to be approved.

      of Jewish weddings -- I forget how many times my nephew and his bride consumed wine during their ceremony (she's Jewish, he's nominally Protestant), but it was enough where my spouse whispered, "Maybe we should convert..." (We do enjoy the fruit of the vine in moderation.)
