  •  No, it's not nearly that balanced (17+ / 0-)

That would be sane and debatable. BoiseBlue is right. The comments from conservatives I know are off-the-rails crazy. They have a world-view that consists of "truths" that can only have been carefully assembled over years of indoctrination.

They really do think Obama is demonstrably the worst thing that happened to our republic, ever. And that we've all been either duped into believing him or are so cemented to the government teat that we cannot break away.

They are convinced that to be patriots they must reject him and his agenda.

    It's... frightening as hell.

    •  You know what's funny? The republicans in my (10+ / 0-)

life were off the rails crazy about Bill Clinton too... but 10 years later, all of a sudden they were kind of blasé about Clinton, saying "he wasn't so bad".

Now I see the same kind of indoctrinated fear about Obama (only worse because he's also a skeery black)... and I just know that 10 years from now, they'll be like, "he wasn't so bad".  But by that point they'll be on to thinking that President Warren is the most evil person possible (and she'll be a skeery woman!)...

So I just shake my head and chuckle to myself.

Corporations are driven by the bottom line, not by concerns for health, safety or the environment. This is why we need government regulations.

      •  The left is the same way. (0+ / 0-)

"Nixon was more liberal in some ways than Obama"

"I long for the days of Republicans like Eisenhower"

Granted, one can argue that our perception of the betterness of previous Republicans is based more on fact than Republican's perception of the betterness of previous Democrats.  But still . . . the future is scary because we don't know what will come.  The past has already happened, we can process it more easily from various viewpoints without having to do so real-time as the facts and pseudo-facts and lies come spewing forth at us out of the butt end of the political process.
