said the video of Obama crying as he thanked campaign staff in Chicago the day after the election was code for "Allah Akbar".

Nothing to do in these cases but laugh it off, no way to rationally address or answer bat shit insanity.

No need to spend any energy trying to convince the willfully ignorant.

idiocy and mocking it, not getting angry but just laughing at them, helps marginalize them. The fact that their own party seems unwilling to do that is what makes me angry.

How I respond tends to depend on the person, how well I know them, what I know of them, past encounters and so on...

Some of the batshit crazy level, meh...I pass on by.

Others I mock, others I engage with, using facts/figures/data as is my wont (but ineffective usually), others via values discussions (which supposedly does better but for me personally has not.)

And actually, your sig line on compassion reminds me of a technique I used in the lead up to the election.  This is that someone is wrong on fact, motivated/manipulated by fear, and that I feel sorry for them and forgive them their ignorance.

on facebook. Unfortunately for him, virtually everyone from middle school he's added is now either staunchly liberal, or is a moderate conservative who maintains some tangential basis for reality, while he's throwing up "Obama-nation!!!!" posts every hour.

It's kind of awkward. Makes the, "great to talk with you again!" ill-fitting.

Is this just math that you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better?

      •  Yes FB is full of these people (7+ / 0-)

had former classmate bemoaning how gullible etc "those people" are who voted for 4 more years of misery and stated, as if fact, we were worse off than 4 years ago.  When I politely responded that 4 years ago to the day the country was in economic collapse, I was met by the claim that, no, we are worse off because her property taxes, gasoline and insurance rates were higher. Facepalm.  I tried to inform her that property taxes are local, gasoline is correlated to the global commodity market (and no Prez. D or R really has much control to affect price other than get us off fossil fuels) and insurance rates are set by the market and solely regulated by the states.  Ugh.  She was insulted that I personally attacked her.

      •  I've got a couple people (0+ / 0-)

in my Friends queue that I'm hesitant to add for this reason.

    •  This is hilarious (9+ / 0-)
Pres. Obama, who wears a ring that says "No god but Allah," wins the Muslim vote 85-4. Get used to it.
Because after all, Romney was the clear choice of the Muslim community before Obama flashed the secret decoder ring at them. You know, just like Romney was the clear choice for women, minorities and the LBGT community before Obama hypnotized them.

A paid consultant specializing in batshit crazy PR couldn't make the people look any more unhinged right now. Truly amazing how they just can't accept that their guy just plain sucked and lost because of it.

    •  do they worry about their precious bodily fluids? (0+ / 0-)

Do they drink only distilled water and refined grain alcohol?

Do they think Obama is part of the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids?
