    if we conclude that likeability beats policy, experience, and competence, then the sensible thing to do is recruit candidates that are extremely attractive and likeable. Gore had more foreign policy experience than Bush but a lot of voters wanted to have a beer with Bush (which is odd, because didn't he give up drinking?). Bush had proved his incompetence by 2004 but a lot of voters still liked him better than Kerry. Lots of voters preferred rockstar Obama over curmudgeon McCain. And Romney was hard for even Republicans to like. I know I will get smacked down for oversimplifying but I think there is a case to be made that likeability can overcome a host of other disadvantages. So let's call up Jimmy and Oprah.
