  •  The structural building blocks of the GOP (23+ / 0-)

I think the GOP has a truly monumental problem.

The structural building blocks of the GOP that we have been seeing since at least Rove/Bush et al, have been predicated on the idea that this structure will move American society in the right direction.  It has been deliberately and persistently been built over about the past fifty years.

The essence of this is that the oil interests and other special interests based on earth extraction are leading a dinosaur charge to maintain a grip on the economy, in anticipation that the worldwide energy situation will slip from their grasp at some point and they need that to be delayed as long as possible.

The have done everything they could to in fact, slow the political system down.

They used the evangelical movement mercilessly, through corrupting an army of preachers who liked their money.

I am sure that when the history of this time is written, this will be the main feature of it.

Now that the election has resulted in the re-election of Obama despite all the efforts and all the billions spent to prevent it, the question is whether the public will now be able to move on to dealing with reality.

The first thing to go ought to be the special interest effort to hoodwink the public on climate change and the need to create more aggressive anti pollution regulations and adopt some kind of incentive system like carbon trading.

Science will have to be taken more seriously.  PR efforts to muddy the waters should be taken for what they are.

Most of the issues we face require more seriousness and more deliberate efforts to assess the facts as they are. We surely need a lot less denial and born again thinking.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.
