here in GA an amendment backed by Wall Street and the Waltons just passed that will centralize control of Charter Schools at the state level.  Until now the corporate charters for profit had largely stayed out of Georgia because it wasn't profitable for them and they had no autonomy as local school boards controlled and funded the schools on a school by school basis.  I'm not looking forward to what will happen here but it does beg the question to me of why solidly blue states and teacher's unions are not devoting any energy to getting some kind of amendment in their states to return control of charter schools to the school districts.

Like I said in my diary, its a sad day when, in NY, you have greater overt pushback and activism from your PRINCIPALS (Over 1/3 signed a petition against the teacher evaluations) than your unions!

If you have ever watched Randi Weingarten in action on the tv news panels she often gets on (corporate media loves her - she plays by the players' rules) you can see what needs to be changed. Her. People like her in charge of unions. And teachers who let this stuff slide, far too often, for far too long. Rude awakening when the chickens come home to roost but they are vultures circling your dead career's carcass!

The AFT rolled over (Randi migrated there after screwing NYC teachers as head of UFT for years, esp under Bloomberg). The NEA made growling noises a few years ago, even had Ravitch as honorary guest speaker. Then they rolled and it is all Democrats rah rah rah! No more mention of the horrid reforms Obama was blanketing us with. Governors like Scott Walker and company in various states helped create more dramatic Republican villains to suck up all the attention, too.

Should a "progressive" Dem blog dwell in the safe zones of a lame party, or should it drive a lame party to break out? If it cant, should it break out?

endorsed Obama early. Teacherken strongly dissented.

That is part of the problem (teachers unions being too nice and not really MAKING obama back off bad ideas)
