  •  The only reason I wouldn't want Kerry chosen (26+ / 0-)

is it would vacate a Senate seat, and I'd read Scott Brown would then run for it with plenty of leftover money in another special election..

I read that it was Harry Reid who wouldn't be happy if Kerry was chosen and for that reason..

    •  I agree completely and don't think (14+ / 0-)

risking and maybe losing the Senate seat would be worth putting Kerry in as SOS.

    •  Agree, we can't afford (5+ / 0-)

to jeopardize a Senate seat.  Doing so would only be good news for you know who.

Officially, I am now putting my hat in the ring for SOS. First order of business - get all the major players together and get shit-faced. Tell the Israelis to quit being such dicks to the Palestinians. Tell Putin to put a shirt on. Tell Ahmadinejad to grow up and quit running around with his chest all pumped out. Tell him nobody's gonna mess with him and stop the stupid shit like thinking about weapons of mass delusions. Tell China to start treating their citizens like human beings or they can sell their shit somewhere else. Tell Karzia we're pulling out of Afghanistan yesterday. Tell the Taliban that when we do they had better stop treating their women folk like they are less than dogs and start treating them as equals or they WILL get a visit from Seal Team 6. Tell Canada to stop making fun of us and stop telling the rest of the world we're a bunch of rightwing morans. Just half of us are.

If this sounds good to you someone needs to start a petition.....

      Thank You.

Yes, I do have this concern about losing a Senate seat, speaking as someone from Arizona who had to endure the succession of Governor Jan Brewer after Obama picked Janet Napolitano for his cabinet.

But on the other hand, Kerry contributed a lot to Obama's election and re-election, and if you go back to 2004, you could argue that Obama owes his entire presidency to Kerry.  So he deserves the job if he wants it.

And I really don't think Scott Brown or any other Republican has much of a shot at the seat.  Brown's election was a fluke unlikely to be repeated.  And it would be a pleasure to watch Brown lose AGAIN.  Although who knows?  Maybe Romney would make another run for the seat, now that he's got a lot of free time on his hands and he still doesn't have a job.

But I think the most likely result of Kerry's appointment to Secretary of State, making Elizabeth Warren the senior senator, is that the new junior senator will be: Joseph Kennedy III.  Yes, he'll only have been in Congress for a few months by the time of the special election.  But for a Kennedy in Massachusetts, that's enough.
