    I agree with you. The fatalism that comes with a certain brand of religiosity is dangerous.

    I once sat near two women discussing fate and the "power of the Universe." One woman said it is important to do whatever you could to improve things. The other said that there is nothing to do--the Universe will take care of itself. Sigh.

    I'm an atheist and secular humanist, too. As Robert Green Ingersoll said, "Happiness is the only good. The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others so."

    I wonder what Markos thought when he started this blog? Sure, come for the politics, but stay for the friendship and cat pics!
