  •  Here's what I can't figure out (5+ / 0-)

Why would Petraeus give Broadwell access to his CIA email?
Apparently that is the big national security issue here, not the affair.  I just can't imagine why the guy would be so reckless.  He's not some dumb kid or a person who is new to the world of national security, so why would he do such a thing?

It has me wondering if Broadwell actually snooped on her own and got his password somehow.  Who knows why she would do such a thing.  Perhaps, if the second "other woman" story turns out to be true, she was using his email account to send that other woman nasty emails.  That almost makes sense, but who the hell knows.

    •  Not his CIA email (8+ / 0-)

The email account in question is his personal gmail account.

      See here

And in the final analysis, it's not clear that Broadwell actually had the password.

So it was just his Gmail account?  I understand the point that the article you linked to is making about the sensitivity of the CIA director's personal Gmail, but I find it hard to believe that Petraeus used that account for anything sensitive.  Yes, his Google Wallet was at risk, sure, but I don't believe that he kept his schedule in Google Calendar or engaged in any sensitive national security communications through that account.

This story looks more and more like it IS about Petraeus' messy personal life and the potential security problems that Broadwell's behavior might raise.

      •  Was it a shared gmail so Broadwell could write (1+ / 0-)

the harrassed woman as if she were Petraus (or anonymously)? Early in our Global War on Terrorism, it was revealed that terroists hide info by never sending a shared draft of a document. Is that how they thought they were getting away with things?

Of course I do know that I log into my gmail account all the time without needing my password.  I don't know if Broadwell had access to Petraus' computer or phone.  There are still details we don't know -- and may never know.
