    the saying seems to hold that "if you stand in the middle of the road, there's a good chance you'll get run over from both directions".

    The blue dogs have progressively lost seats in recent elections -- especially in the House.  However, as long as they have a presence in the Dem party, they will retain influence.  Especially true if the blue dog votes are critical for achieving a majority.  The presence as key votes, tends to give them a lot more leverage, and many tend to exercise it.
