    But you really have to wonder why they didn't encourage Jamal to tell his mom.  If they did, it's not in the timeline.

      Unlike a suicide attempt or death threat, there was no reason to believe that Jamal was in immediate danger after the first event. Campus police, and Jamal himself, probably believed that it was adequately addressed. This is really an race-based form of bullying. When younger kids are bullied at school, they often try to keep it from their parents but schools have a responsibility to notify. College aged kids, it's different.
