  •  That was bound to happen, but . . . (5+ / 0-)

there is no way for Dems, especially progressive Dems to win in that race because redistricting pitted Marcy Kaptur against Dennis Kucinich in the primary. One way or another we were bound to lose.

I think Marcy's great but it saddens me to have Dennis boosted just as the progressive values he's fought so long for may be beginning to take hold. He has done so much . . .

    •  Dennis did very little for "progressive values" (0+ / 0-)

He didn't move his progressive causes one inch because he could not build coalitions. He even ended his campaign by running a radio ad that said "Maybe in Toledo [where Kaptur is from and which comprised the largest chunk of the district] the truth doesn't matter." Needless to say, the Kaptur campaign used his stupidity to their advantage. In the end, he became a divider, even supporting the radical gerrymander when he thought it benefited him — which undoubtedly led to no Democrats standing up in his defense. And he did himself no favors by playing coy about moving to another state if he didn't get him way. The voters started to think it was all about him and not about them. Marcy, of the other hand, moved into the Cleveland area aggressively, attending every event she could. People here are really getting to know her, even though she lives pretty far away. I like Marcy a lot, I think she's a decent, sincere, hard-working person, and she's not as anti-choice as she's rumored to be. (Her ratings from groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood PAC have been up and down. I think she's open to persuasion.)
