    Dear Texas,

We refer you to Texas v. White (1869)

Ask again when you have a constitutional amendment in place.

    Thanks for playing.

    Office of your President.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

    •  Oh Don't Go There! (0+ / 0-)

According to the Texas TeaBagging, Gun Luvin, 2nd Amendment of The Bill of Rights supporters, that is the part of The US Constitution and Bill of Rights that has a Liberal Bias and should be ignored.

We should let Texas go, they don't realize it but they are the 47% that takes more money distributed from the Federal Government than they pay in. We Would Be Better Off Without Em.

When they realize the mistake they have made, it should be costly to return, before rejoining the union, Texas should have to prove solvency, and that they no longer will be a burden to the rest of the country.

      Procede Governor! Take this rope....

        give Texas back to Mexico.

      •  Full Disclosure - I'm from Texas... (7+ / 0-)

Texas is the second largest economy in the US and 15th largest in the world. We gross more than $100 billion annually in trade with other nations. We produce more oil than any other state in the union.

I'm really getting tired of people claiming that Texas takes more money than we pay in. It just isn't true. According to the economist, the state of Texas currently has a $34 Billion surplus over the last 20 years in federal spending. This means that, over the last 20 years, Texas has contributed $34 Billion more than it has received in federal spending.

In the past few years we have received more than we have contributed. This is due to an increasingly impoverished population that relies on Food Stamps, Unemployment, and Medicaid. However, as of now, we still have a federal surplus. If the trend is reversed, we can keep it that way.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Texas staying in the Union. Leaving the US would be a mistake. However, people like you need to take a hard look and realize that Texas contributes a lot economically to the union and that we need to be putting in hard work to change some of the backward culture that is prevalent here, not championing secession.

Full, FULL Disclosure: I live in Travis County, one of the most progressive counties in the state.

        •  And that probably does not include downstream (4+ / 0-)

tax revenues from gasoline sold in other states that is refined in Texas.

I mentioned this in another comment.  Texas refines 40% of all oil in the US.  An independent Texas could decide to sell that refined product on the open market rather than to its neighbor to the north.

Gasoline consumption in the rest of the USA would plummet and so would tax revenues.

All this talk of "better off without 'em" is just stupid.

        •  You're Right... (0+ / 0-)

Texas is a valued contributor to this nation, you're just overrun with crazy radical rightwing teabaggers for the moment that are choosing to shoot themselves in the foot by aligning with the teabagged nut jobs in the states that don't pull their own weight such as Mississippi, Alabama, & West Virginia and others.

New Mexico at least knows who butters their bread and have voted Team Blue for Potus, Senator, and 2/3's of their House seats.

Secession is just crazy talk, but maybe we should call their bluff. The scary part is that some folks may actually be that far out there. Maybe we need to introduce voter suppression laws that require IQ testing. LOL

We all know what Team Red brings to the table, Craziness, Fear & Division rule the roost with nothing constructive to offer. I'm looking forward to the maturation of the Latino Population in your state and the change to blue that it will bring as I'm sure that you are.
