I hesitated because it would appear to be panic, but the thought of dogs who have never known any love being killed when people are doing what they can and need more help pushed me to post it.  It is far away from the rescue people here, and I was willing to try because this is a place where animals are loved and respected and there could be some people near the situation that could do something or pass the word to those who can.

I have five rescues and have had as many as eight on one income, and they are a most rewarding experience.  Some were close to being put to sleep, and the thought of that in view of what a good life they have now had and how they KNOW they have been rescued and appreciate it makes me want these babies to have a chance.

My rescue is almost exclusively with overcrowded kill shelters in the DC Metro area, and almost always for senior and special needs cats - the ones least like to get rescued before they are killed.  I'm looking at my 15/16 year old Clide right now - we rescued him just shy of 2 years ago from a high kill shelter where his "family" had dumped him three days before Christmas.  WE ADORE HIM.

These rescued cas seem to understand on some visceral level that they are rescued - and they are grateful and it shows.
