  •  A "gluten-free lifestyle" (0+ / 0-)

If you lump gluten-free diets that are mostly processed food substitutes in with those that are composed of natural foods prepared from raw ingredients, you can make that claim, and it would be true in some cases.

But otherwise, there is no reason that anyone who wants to stop eating gluten would be negatively impacted by doing so. It's not like our bodies require wheat for survival.  And there are many millions of Americans eating a diet composed mostly of wheat and/or corn, clearly a third world diet.

    •  Oh, I'm not claiming it's UNhealthier ... (0+ / 0-)

... just that it isn't necessarily healthier.  For most metabolisms, gluten is more or less neutral; cutting it out is neither a health benefit or a health loss, all other nutrients being equal.

Of course, a diet composed of natural foods prepared from raw ingredients is likely to be healthier in general than a diet composed mostly of processed food substitutes, and that's true whether either diet involves gluten or not.
