  •  Just read Captain Vorpatril's Alliance (9+ / 0-)

Bujold has a way of building up to some wonderful dramatic moments. Howard Tayler over at Schlock Mercenary has a review up about it. He calls it a cleverly disguised romantic comedy. There are several great scenes in the book, along with some lovely quiet interludes.

I'm thinking for example of the moment where Ivan Vorpatril wonders that people don't connect that having a lot of girl friends also means having a lot of break ups...

The scene where Ivan tries to pick up a woman he's been told may be in some kind of trouble that needs investigating ends... well better than might be expected.

If you aren't familiar with Bujold's Vorkosigan saga, there may be a few too many references you'll fail to fully appreciate - but it's still a good read.

"No special skill, no standard attitude, no technology, and no organization - no matter how valuable - can safely replace thought itself."
