    or simply not much competition at all, I've found.  That is, you'll always get a dud pizza place when there's many in the area, and with little competition the parlor will often show low motivation to do better.

    Living in the NY metro area, the first time I ordered from a chain pizza restaurant in 20 years was this past Halloween - Sandy had hit and they had online ordering in place (via my mobile phone) before local restaurants had power.  Though, I had to drive half an hour for their meh pizza . . . but, it was to help quickly feed a couple dozen guests who were part of our trick-or-treating group.

      your average pizza place uses cheap cheese and mushrooms out of a can. The entire developed world has been affected by the factory mentality. Of course in Rome (and NYC) there are lots of really good pizza places, much better than Papa Johns.
