...over a sexual relationship or affair -- strikes me as a form of religious pornography. It doesn't matter who they are, their sexual orientation, their job, the color of their skin.

Did you relish hearing about the president's penis over the past two years? That had nothing to do with him doing his job.

If you think Petraeus' gmail account was hacked, you're wrong.

If you think CIA secrets went from Petraeus to Broadwell, show me the link. There's no connection to anything in her account with header info leading to such an accusation.

Now, if you just like to talk about other people's pee-pees if they are Republican -- I fully understand. Just say so. Otherwise, I might think you are lost in Orwellian sex-organ policing -- which has always been horrible for America and got a lot of people killed.

    •  No one on the left gives a crap about whose (5+ / 0-)

sleeping with who.  It the hypocrisy of the right that makes us want to lash out.  The family values, the values voters, CPAC, all of that crap.  If the right would stay out of other people's sex lives, then it wouldn't be a scandal when they slipped.

That is to say, we do know they shared a gmail account, which was not his work account. But do we know for sure that she never obtained access to any classified information?

I would assume the FBI search of her house last night was an attempt to answer that question.

      •  I see no reason to assume (0+ / 0-)

...that he stole top secret docs from the CIA to titillate his girlfriend with.

It seems out of character -- and no one has made such an accusation except folks on the Left discussing his sex organs.

I admit stranger things have happened.

For example, I think Animal Protective Services lead the dog away from the house, today, too.

You know what that means he's probably guilty of ;-)

    •  Persecution? (0+ / 0-)

      You are kidding, right?

What is clear is that dribbles and drabs of this sorry matter are being leaked out to the media by leakers with political, not sexual, agendas.

If you have a Gmail account, maybe you should peer inside one of your own emails just to get a handle on why what Petraeus did was so dangerous.  Open any email you've received, and right beside the Replay Arrow at the upper right of the email body, is a little down arrow.

Click that, and from the pull down list, select "Show Original."

      Damn little secret, is there?

I can't imagine how and why the Director of CIA is even allowed to have private email.

Just being able to find out from his private emails where he is and when he's there is a threat to "national security."

In spy novels, our spies and theirs don't kidnap, murder, and torture each other.

But you can bet, if nothing else, factions in the Middle East would be very happy to get their claws into Petraeus and give him the Abu Ghraib vacation, gratis.

      •  There's another tidbit (3+ / 0-)

that was reported earlier - now I'm blanking on the source.  But it was a major news outlet.

Apparently there was some interest in Paula Broadwells' Facebook page, as she posted effusive pics and tidbits from her time being embedded with Petraeus.

My friends in National Security and in Homeland Security are not allowed to have FACEBOOK pages.  My Homeland Security friend does NOT have a really top secret job, but he still can't have one!  How can a woman with high-level clearances get away with that?

I tried to point out in my diary, it's the carelessness.  It's not about the penis'.  I could care less about that...it's about the access, the leaks, the evidence of poor job performance.

        •  I thought I read (0+ / 0-)

she didn't have a high level clearance (or maybe any clearance). She isn't a government employee (works for Harvard) so she may not be subject to those same restrictions.

that broadwell posted a pic of angelina jolie in petreaus' office on her fb page a few hrs after it was taken.

apparently he sent it to her & she broadcast it to make a point about how much access she had or something, & people who claim to know how the cia works said that was kind of unprecedented & usually photos taken in the director's office were kept private.

it seems like broadwell was trying to turn her liason with petraeus into a cottage industry, or a springboard to greater things, maybe, like being the power behind the throne if he ever got in the oval office.

To me it's clear that she was highly ambitious and her unprecedented access gave her a brand and an identity that was already catapulting her into higher levels of her career.

I believe she had some sort of clearance in order to be embedded.  But I may be wrong.

        •  I read something that it was a picture - taken (0+ / 0-)

in his office at the CIA of Petreaus with Angelina Jolie, and that taking pictures in any CIA office building is strictly forbidden.

They didn't think that Paula Broadwell took the picture though, but that Petreaus had given it to her.

      •  I'm somewhat familiar with email headers (0+ / 0-)

and what they mean, having once-upon-a-time written my very own SMTP/IMAP/POP3 email client. Can you please explain to me what is so dangerous about them? 'Cause I really don't get what you're getting at there.

      •  Actually, that is my focus (0+ / 0-)

There was no reason for Petraeus to resign or for the nation to discuss his penis.
