She keeps being described as a scholar who wrote her dissertation on Petaeus.  But then I saw an interview with her "ghostwriter."  I know this word is not being used accurately in the news.  His name is on the cover of the book, but it is "with Vernon Loeb."  If she is a scholar, why does she need such help?

Further, I can find no dissertation by a paula Broadwell in databases like Proquest Dissertation Abstracts International, which are pretty thorough.

So I see only tatters of clearness through a pervading obscurity - Annie Dillard -6.88, -5.33

Paula Broadwell is a research associate at Harvard University’s Center for Public Leadership and a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. She spent much of a year in Afghanistan as an embedded author, extending her doctoral dissertation on transformational leadership and organizational innovation based on the career of U.S. Army General David Petraeus.

    •  Her bio says she's a West Point graduate (4+ / 0-)

and former (or currently in reserves?) Military Intelligence officer. She was working on her Ph.D and wanted Petraeus and his leadership style to be the focus of her dissertation. Which turned into a book. Which she did not write, had a ghostwriter. Ghostwriter said she did the "reporting" on the story, when she was in Afghanistan or Iraq with Petraeus, although I don't see anything in her background that would make her a reporter, either. It's all very strange.

Confession time: When I'm not ranting about politics, I write romance novels
