  •  You don't understand the grand bargain of 2011 (10+ / 0-)

He knew before he suggested it the Republicans would never take it or he wouldn't have done it. It was calculated to box them into a corner and paint them in the worst possible light. It worked, remember the Republican debates? They all looked like extremists, obstructionists and more importantly not the least concerned with the welfare of this country. Now we have to apply pressure to them let them know we stand with the President and their dream of killing entitlements died forever with this election which was by the way a MANDATE!

He increased the size of the tax increase from $1 trillion to $1.4 trillion.

That was a pretty clever scam, and I can't really blame people who were fooled.  It took me weeks to work out what he was playing at.

stand, our futures depend on you getting behind our President and stopping this 2011 nonsense. He handed you the Republican party on a platter, they were savaged in this election. We own this in no small part to the President being so much smarter than they are and motivated by the right things. Then was then and now is now and NOW is the chance we have to change the game forever.

How does little more than a majority popular vote work out to "savaged?" A shift of fewer than a half-million votes in a handful of states would have resulted in a Republican win. Meantime, there is still a Republican majority in the House and Senate where they can still filibuster to a standstill. I'd say "wounded" is a lot closer than "savaged." But which word is of little importance. What's significant is that there is again the makings of a standoff, and "getting behind our President" doesn't carry much political weight for at least the next year.

many states like my own were redistricted to make sure we couldn't win, I think we did a mighty fine job. Getting behind our President ALWAYS matters and if you can't do it now it may not even matter next year we will have undermined him to the point unless he has the House and the Senate none of our dreams will ever come true. We coulnd't wait to bail on him in 2008, didn't hear the hard work part or we needed to be engaged part. We just sat back and thought he would and could do it all. We got a second chance, lets prove we deserved it.
