    Yeah, here is the quote. But here you can hear him say it. This is the root of modern GOP electoral politics, and they chose--and keep choosing--to pay the price of sleeping with (and being) raging racists. For profit.

    Want to know why black and brown people and others vote Democratic? Because they know this. Even if they don't know the quote, they know its reality.

    And white America needs to hear that. Why not vote GOP? Because they are willingly racist, and by choice. Their policies aren't a product of their ideology here, they are a product of choosing to pander to racists.

    Why the hell would you vote for that, if you aren't ok with racism?

      this is was not picked up by the media.  the spoken word is powerful but here it was spoken in an anonymous interview and quoted in an article in 1981, over thirty years ago.  over twenty years later, in 2005, it came out that it was atwater who said it.  so for seven years now people could have been making hay out of it but didn't.  sadly, it has never become the story it deserves to be and it doesn't seem like audio is going to help it now.
