    but what really got my goat, got me off my duff and had me place a 'No' sign on my front lawn was the awful editorial in the Star Trib by the creepy Archbishop of St. Paul just  few weeks before the election.  The editorial was on a Sunday, by same Sunday afternoon we were happily hammering in the sign.

    The man is a nasty piece of work.  He seems to think he's the Cleric of All Minnesota, whether you're Catholic or not.

    And I'm not.  Quite why non-Catholics are supposed to take him seriously is beyond me.

    Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man; we shall this day light such a candle by God's grace in England as shall never be put out.

      Whenever any (conservative) religious leader makes a pronouncement we're all supposed to obey because we're a Christian nation.  That's what that Christian nation bullshit is all about - granting authority and power to conservatives who haven't been elected to anything and who couldn't win on the strength of their arguments.  It's the ultimate in identity politics (you know, that thing that the right supposedly hates).
