  •  It's simple, really (10+ / 0-)

Progressives and the groups that shelter under our umbrella all want, at our hearts, one thing:

    Equality for Everyone
I'm a straight, white, Christian male. And I want everyone in my country to have the same rights, privileges, and standing in society as the Republicans think only people like me should have.

Wanting the gay man in Seattle, the lesbian in Wisconsin, the Hispanic children in Texas, the African-Americans here in Virginia, the humanists in San Francisco...wanting all these people to all have the same, if you'll pardon the phrase, God-given rights and stature as people like me, the people for whom the conservative movement believes this country should belong to...that makes this country stronger.

I'm not in a union, but I'll stand for worker rights.

I have a straight marriage, but I'll fight for gay people to get married too.

I believe in God, but if you don't, I won't try and run you out of town.

I have never been hassled by police for my skin color, or asked to show that I legally belong here, and I'll fight to stop those abuses from happening to my friends and countrymen of different backgrounds.

Progressives believe that a United...United States of America, makes the country as a whole better.

Funny, isn't that really what the people who founded this country - by and large given the times - thought too?
