Hopefully the progressively improved senate will assist and strengthen this effort - the house is another matter...Obama may need his bully pulpit to work some magic!

We have just no earthly idea of the President's position...

While Social Security is not the cause of our deficit, it faces real long-term challenges in a country that’s growing older. As I said in the State of the Union, both parties should work together now to strengthen Social Security for future generations. But we have to do it without putting at risk current retirees, or the most vulnerable, or people with disabilities; without slashing benefits for future generations; and without subjecting Americans’ guaranteed retirement income to the whims of the stock market. And it can be done.
You keep advancing your panic narrative based on what you selectively read in the conservative press. The people who do the real work will do just fine without you.
      •  You are right - we don't know (0+ / 0-)

Hopefully, however, this initiative might gain some momentum and pick-up those not whole-heartedly in favor - likely, including Obama. If the Senate approved it, though, it may get some traction. One of the big hurdles is that companies will also have to pay the 6.2% match to the individual SS contribution. It is hard to imagine that "they" would agree without lots of squealing!
