  •  Savings? (0+ / 0-)
Obama’s previous proposal called for raising $1.6 trillion in new taxes on the wealthy by allowing tax rates to increase, imposing a new special tax on millionaires and limiting deductions for the wealthy. He also proposed $340 billion in health-care and entitlement savings, continuing $1.1 trillion in spending cuts already passed into law and generating another $1 trillion in savings through the end of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
    Savings?

After several decades where the 1% got everything they wanted at the expense of the 99%... now we have to "share" the "sacrifice"?

    Savings = cuts.  Period. = 99% suffer.

Savings does not nessecarily equal cuts in benefits.

      •  Why, it'll just happen thanks to the magical (0+ / 0-)

"Savings" fairy, right?  Riding in on a Unicorn, no less.

Imagine if an (R) was saying he was going to "save" money in a social program - why the "left" would howl in outrage!

        hey wait a sec...

Seems to me there's a degree of effectiveness at play here, eh?

        •  Can you hear that sucking sound? (0+ / 0-)

That is the sound of medicare part d. VA pays about half of what medicare part d pays for drugs because they can negotiate the prices.
Medicare part d is a program with a projected cost of a triljon over 10 years that mostly benefits big pharma.
So yes,  you don't need a magic wand to make cuts in social programs without cutting benefits.

          •  So... (0+ / 0-)

what you're suggesting is that Obama is going to make it so Medicare can negotiate drug prices, and, as a result this will equate to savings?

            That's all?

Crap!  I was worried for nothing!  Indeed, this is FANTASTIC news!  I was concerned Obama's intent might somehow (I know this sounds weird) have something to do with his Deficit Commission he created via Executive Order and then gave the co-chair to Alan Simpson.

            Silly me.

Hey... maybe Obama could accomplish some Welfare Reform - like Clinton?

How about some more Free Trade Job Off-shoring (yes, yes, I know he already did S. Korea, Panama, and Columbia but there's the Trans Pacific Partnership waiting!)

Well.. get ready... we'll see how things play out.  Who knows?  Maybe Obama will do a 180 and we'll finally have a champion in the WH for the 99%.

    •  Savings does indeed= cuts in DC-speak. (0+ / 0-)

I still don't trust the President on this. I want to see more details.

The Grand Bargain must be stopped at all costs to protect the 99%.
