  •  Okay, you're pissing me off now. (4+ / 0-)

Make sure you know what the fuck you're talking about when it comes to my industry before you go spouting bullshit like this:

KPOJ, the long lasting and only liberal station in Portland, was not switched to a sports station by their cowardly owners for financial reasons.

Yes. It was switched for financial reasons, i.e., consistently poor Arbitron preformance:

From October 2011 to October 2013,according to the ratings tracked by Arbitron, KPOJ fell from a 1.1 share to a 1.0 share of listeners—meaning 1 percent of listeners above the age of 12 were tuned to 620 AM. That's well behind last month's 3.5 share for News Radio KEX 1190 (which airs Rush Limbaugh) and the 5.0 share for KXL FM News 101 (which airs Lars Larson).

KOPJ's numbers also trail KOPB—the public radio station has an enviable 5.5 share—and both sports stations, KXTG The Game (2.5 share) and KFXX The Fan (1.6 share).

That's it. Like it or lump it. Stations that do not succeed undergo format changes.

I'm not going to sit here while you say deceptive and untrue shit to this community. KPOJ flipped because its ratings were in the shitter.

    PERIOD.

    •  Good Morning, kestrel9000...:o) (2+ / 0-)

I hope you have a fantastic day.

The GOP hate me! I'm black, a woman, disabled veteran, divorced mother and liberal. THEY SUCK!

Some of us want our jazz and blues and R&B and rock and classical... without too many interruptions of ads.

No preachers and no country music. And especially no stupid lying liars and their hate spread on our daily bread.

But, you can't get it anymore. Radio waves aren't about the music anymore. Maybe it never was.

And yet, the universities are funding the Talibangical conservative hate-fest across our national airwaves. That is public money and should not be disproportionately funneled to the conservative spectrum.

    •  what are arbitron ratings? send out a bunch of (0+ / 0-)

questions to a selected sample? does clearchannel do it?

the limbaugh stations  and the larson station- are they doing oregon football?

how many other stations in that area get similar ratings and didn't get dropped?

if you think the most important part of the republican disinformation machine isn't going to play politics to protect itself you're a naive fool.

that talk radio monopoly does the groundwork for everything they've been doing for 20 years and at your level of the business profit is gravy. Limbaugh was subsidized to start.  it supports itself (barely) with some stations doing better than others but it function primarily as a 24/7 free advertisement for the GOP and the chamber of commerce.

if you think at a higher level they're going to be reticent to make political moves like this you're nuts.

as i said, that talk radio monopoly has made them trillions for them the the last 20 years.

      •  Your first three questions (0+ / 0-)

show you're not qualified to speak to the issue.

        •  but you won't address the rest. i've heard (0+ / 0-)

people in the biz call arbitron misleading.

how much depends on signal strength?

would those other stations get those high ratings if people weren't used to tuning them in for traffic and weather and football and basketball?

how many other CC stations with similar ratings get a pass. and why? because they're innocuous?

but, for good or ill, (I say ill) fortunes turn on it.

how much depends on signal strength?
Coverage maps do matter, but you gotta show the numbers to match.
would those other stations get those high ratings if people weren't used to tuning them in for traffic and weather and football and basketball?
Probably. Stations are rated daypart by daypart. You can see what shows perform and which one's don't.
how many other CC stations with similar ratings get a pass. and why? because they're innocuous?
NO format with five or six consecutive books with 1 shares across the board gets a pass, anywhere, ever.

            •  on your last point (0+ / 0-)

i'd be surprised if there weren't stations seen as serving very particular markets that advertisers would like to target.

in the case of KPOJ, local progressives who use radio advertising or local businesses serving 'progressives'

and compare with loss of advertisers all those liimbaugh stations are dealing with

            •  arbitron ratings need to be politically weighed (0+ / 0-)

in talk radio, in a blue state, in a blue town, for advertising purposes, a high arbitron rating for a limbaugh station would have to be weighed downward considering what richard meyers and all the other activists have done to them.
