It doesn't matter why you wrote this, or even if you don't know why.

    I am glad you did.

My dad was a lifelong Dem, and met my mom at a Philly Adlai Stevenson rally.  But he liked Nixon, kept kosher at home, but ate bacon and lobster when he went to restaurants.  A very complex man, he was stripped of his security clearance by the McCarthy commission after a racist dropped a dime on him for sticking up for black folks at a baltimore jobsite.  Jewish clubs in college suddenly became communist havens.  Still, he stuck it out as an engineer, and won many govt contracts over his (way too short) lifetime.

I am sorry if I kind of co-opted your diary and your story.  I did not mean to, but your writing really touched me, and for reasons I don't know, I had to write about my dad to you.

My novel is very closely-based on my dad's real story, as it simultaneously lays all of my politics bare.  Your writing of your dad reminded me alot of my own.  I would encourage you to write more about him as the years go by, whatever type of writing you do.
