  •  Sadly, for them... (7+ / 0-)

Right-wing dictatorships in South and Central America are really a thing of the past.

If we could turn the clock back a few decades, I'm sure they would have found the regime of Paraguay's Alfredo Stroessner to be to their liking.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. -- John Kenneth Galbraith

That could be a good fit.

Purging predominantly minority voters and requiring them to present IDs to vote in the face of VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT VOTER FRAUD is RACISM! I hereby declare all consenting Republicans RACISTS until they stand up and object to these practices!

According to wikipedia (based off World Fact Book statistics as reported to the UN), the world's most unequal distribution of wealth is in Namibia, where the GINI coefficient reaches 70.  Chile comes in fifteenth with a coefficient of 52 -- it's not even the most unequal in Latin America, with Paraguay, Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras and Bolivia having more unequal distributions of wealth.  If you include Haiti in Latin America, it also has a worse distribution of wealth than Chile.

Chile is bad, make no mistake about it.  But it's not the worst.

    •  After the Civil War (7+ / 0-)

many die hard Confederates went to Brazil.  This was the only country to maintain slavery after the 13th Amendment.

But isn't one of their issues that new immigrants don't speak 'Merican?  Latin America would be a stretch.
