  •  She probably did work for a generic call center (7+ / 0-)

She did not answer with the name of the organization - just hello, this is Sherry.  She fumbled around for a minute or two to find the preprinted script promoting the work of the PAC doing the fundraising.  She seemed bumbling and ill at ease trying to actually promote the cause.  When she thanked me for NOT donating, suddenly she had real warmth and kindness in her voice - I felt like all at once Sherry the real person showed up to thank me.  It took her a minute to remember to try to find other ways to wrangle some money out of my pocketbook.....

    •  As an Iowan I got a passel of surveys. When there (3+ / 0-)

was a real person I enjoyed making the survey as much of a conversation as possible. When a Republican push poll came, given by a woman with an African-American accent, I was vigorous and colorful in my answers and by the end she was laughing along with me.

political calls, but there are occasionally solicitations for money.  I got robocalled twice this cycle asking for donations to the Romney campaign, to defeat the evil Obama.  When they got to "press 1 to donate to the Romney campaign" I pressed 1, then waited till the live person came on the line.  When they started to thank me for donating, I told them I wouldn't donate to Romney if he were the last politician on Earth (in which case he wouldn't need donations, I guess!). Told them I thought he was a menace to the country.  They sounded rather surprised at my statement and uncertain how to respond.  It was quite fun, really!
