"War on Drugs." I heard yesterday that it has cost us something like $1.3 trillion and what has it done but put hundreds of thousands of people in jail for using. For years. And many, many are still there, their lives ruined.

I do not want to use pot, but I want it legalized.

When you consider the amount we have had to pay in interest to finance that part of the national debt, the total cost to U.S. taxpayers is closer to $2 Trillion.

Money we borrowed from China to put Americans in prison for doing the equivalent of a shot of whiskey now and then.

    •  what we all have to realize (0+ / 0-)

is that this war on drugs is war on those people: the "urban", the poor, of color, the young

it's but one of the ways the public is managed, e.g. you exported all the jobs so you have a lot of young unemployed?

and, you don't care about educating everyone, so you have a lot of young unemployed uneducated, untrained, affectless young people?

good that mj is accepted and stops being the bait to support our outrageiously large prison system

and, hopefully, with the demographics trend, the nation will grow up and really prove the "great experiment"
