  •  I'd argue that the suburbs (8+ / 0-)

are the big right wing voters. There aren't many folks in rural areas, and you have several rural areas that vote Democratic. Capturing the cultural isolation and echo chamber of the suburbs will net more Democratic votes than chomping at true rural areas. The suburbs make up a large chunk of several of the red counties surrounding blue urban centers. The burbs ain't rural.

    •  Agree. Suburbanites spend way more time driving, (4+ / 0-)

and thus, listening to the radio.

Their parents fled the city during the first era of desegregation and have grumbled about "big government" ever since. These folks are the perfect audience for Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and Savage.

I'd love to see some demographic maps that combine radio markets with voting patterns.

      Have you noticed?
      Politicians who promise LESS government
      only deliver BAD government.

It was something to listen to other than RW hate radio.

I did discover a Classical station -- another endangered format -- so my long commute won't be a choice between commercial Rock or hate radio.
