  •  Physics Nit Pick... (4+ / 0-)

I would say I am sorry to nit pick, but I am not due to science OCD.

Hitting an oncoming object of exactly the same mass as you moving at the same speed will result in the same damage as hitting a stationary object.  Explained intuitively you have twice the energy split between twice the objects making the energy dissipated in each object the same as if each object had hit something stationary and immovable.

Of course differences in mass can change this.  A car hitting an oncoming tractor trailer moving at the same speed will look more like the car hitting  a stationary object moving at twice the speed.

Unfortunately, the physics say that selfishly you would prefer to hit an oncoming vehicle smaller than yours over a stationary object or an oncoming vehicle larger than yours.  Unless you are a sociopath, it is not be morally, ethically, or emotionally preferable.
