  •  Just curious (3+ / 0-)

What is it about being college drop-outs that is a blemish in their character?  Unless you are saying that it is a value that they profess and fail to live up to, it seems like an unfair standard to hold them to.

    Disclaimer: I am also a college drop-out.

    •  It should also be pointed out... (0+ / 0-)

...that Romney led Obama by four points among voters with undergraduate degrees.  Obama led Romney by four points among voters who had not attended college.
College dropouts are a group which should be favoring Democratic candidates, and we'd be wise to court them, not insult them.

college grads but lost 9 of the states with the lowest % of college grads.  If you're info is correct, there's somewhat of a paradox there, but I'm too lazy to figure out the explanation.  However, I bet it has to do with most of the low-education states being in the old Confederacy & many of the high-education states having a lot of colleges within their borders & thus a lot of Obama-voting college students who haven't finished their undergrad degrees yet.

I do think his point abt so many R opinion leaders not having a college degree is relevant because the right's anti-intellectualism has been increasing for decades until it has now reached incredibly toxic levels.  The right used to have William F. Buckley, Louis Ruckeyser, & Milton Friedman.  Now they have Limbaugh, Beck, Kudlow, & Cramer.

      the question.
Lack of education and being generally a drag on society is one of the constant themes all of these idiots expound.
Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and working 3 jobs to get through college is the classic Horatio Alger story promoted from their bully pulpits.
The same for supporting the war. If you don't support the war then you don't support the troops. If you don't support the troops, you're anti-American and unpatriotic. You're scum. Then they stick a little yellow ribbon on their car and promote legislation that cuts VA benefits.
They have no first hand knowledge of how a soldier or sailor feels.
As their tours of duty were constantly being extended and they couldn't even be happy when they were,"Short Timers", the morale was taking a serious hit.
You can't keep soldiers in the battlefield with no real objective, no defined enemy, no alcohol, no family and no sex for an extended period of time without something giving way.
When they couldn't even count on their rotation back to the world, we took one of the very few things a servicewoman/man could hold on to away from them and I have never heard anyone but a Veteran speak out about this and I know the Limbaughs of the Country have no clue.

      •  I think they would say their success (0+ / 0-)

proves that it is not necessary for people to go to college, so all these programs to help poor people pay for college are a big waste of money.

        •  Their success proves that P.T. Barnum (0+ / 0-)

          was correct.
They can attribute their success to the lack of education, way before college, and the effects of peer pressure and indoctrination.
The people who gain from this are by and large people who prey on these malleable people. They have no conscience and will sell them the latest snake oil or penile enlarger with not a qualm.

had Bo Derek on, and he asked her if she recommended that other girls follow in her footsteps. She had dropped out of high school to hang out at the beach, where she was discovered by Jon Derek. She responded that dropping out of high school to hang out at the beach had worked for her, so she thought it a fine path.

    •  I think it has to do (0+ / 0-)

with the "elite" business and the demonization of education.

    •  I think this is one of those examples (0+ / 0-)

where someone is so angry toward some people that any insult seems to be appropriate. In the diary they are also criticized for being fat, with "fat, puffy asses". Many liberals, and many progressive heroes have had puffy asses. People here sometimes cross the line without even realizing that they are crossing the line.

    •  You're right. I retract that (0+ / 0-)

Somehow it just seemed to fit their hypocrisy.
