been in for decades.  Egypt is no longer the absolute secure partner it once was and other countries in the region continue to evolve.  The Saudis remain firm friends with Israel (despite deplorable internal policies regarding Israel as red meat for their populace) but the question is how long can the Saudi royals continue to ride the tiger?  There is a great deal of discontent beneath the surface of their very restricted society.

A ground incursion into Gaza no longer can depend on Egypt to enforce its borders and there is no assurance that Hizbullah will sit out such an incursion.  The wild card is now Syria since it appears a diverse group of rebels now control portions of the Israel/Syria border,  Golan is no longer the secure buffer it once was.

Question is if Israel can maintain a two front or even three front nonconventional war?  After all, Israeli incursions into Gaza and Lebanon seem to have produced few long lasting benefits while being very expensive for the Israelis.
It appears the Israeli military is committed to a conventional military solution to their problems, not recognizing the "rope a dope" aspect of asymmetrical warfare whose goal is to win the war by losing every battle.  Military success is secondary to political success and ultimately Pyrrhic victories will take their toll on the IDF

get engaged in a ground operation that would risk IDF casualties.  it would be toxic to his reelection.  On the other hand, if we see a prolonged ground operation it will be a signal that Netanyahu is worried about electoral victory and will use the ongoing ground war national emergency  to justify postponing the elections.

somewhere or another. The re-election of President Obama could be read as a sign that the majority of Americans oppose going to war with Israel against Iran. But, if it's war he wants, there's alway Gaza.

Bibi's gangster technique to hold the UN and the Oslo accords hostage will neither surprise most of the American public at this point nor lessen their disrespect for him.

        Gallup, July 27, 2012:

Americans have a more positive (35%) than negative (23%) view of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, though four in 10 are not familiar enough with him to rate him. Views of Netanyahu are similar to what they were in Gallup's last measurement

Gallup's numbers were so low.  Consider the number of fundamentalists for whom Israel can do no wrong.

the facts on the ground and who is the leader of the various countries involved is irrelevant.  All they know is the heroic Jewish people are defending the Holy Land against the terrible heretics who are in Satan's thrall.  The "Ay-Rabs" (sorry, trying to transliterate pronunciation used by one Christian Zionist) are commie pawns  and all that is needed is for "Jay-sus" to return on a fiery throne to trigger Armageddon and 1/2 of the Jews to perish.  The rest will convert and "Jay-sus" will rule from Jerusalem as absolute religious/political leader and there will be Utopia (note: there are 2 types of Tribulationists and this is a shorthand amalgamation of their beliefs sort of)
