    the middle class."

When it comes to financial well-being, people want to be richer than they currently are...regardless of where they are.  When I made 28K a year as a teacher, my life goal was to get to 60K a year (I figured that would be enough to live comfortably and never want for more).  I passed that figure 12 years ago and set my sights higher, thinking 100K was the magic number.  There is no magic number.

Seeing our troops come home from Afghanistan, that is the American Dream to me.

Making education affordable to all, that is the American Dream to me.

Universal healthcare.  Ending poverty for all.  Nurturing, not raping, the environment.  Those are part of the American Dream.

I have a wonderful wife, two good dogs and a loving cat, am fairly close with my family, and have a nice circle of friends...and live in a nice, modest house looking out at the ocean.  That, for me, is the American dream.

Whether I crack 200K in the next few years is not the American Dream...though it would be nice.

Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
