importance will be made sick by his actions.  So he really doesn't have to care.  And if someone were made sick because of poor sanitation, he'd fire the workers and raise prices.  Not salaries.

I wonder how the non-wait-staff feel about this increase in costs - he says the customers can pay the tips the same, but there's no extra money going to the staff who cooks the food.  They won't get health care because their hours are cut.  They're just S.O.L.

Pay lousy wages and have lousy conditions and you rely on a lousy economy to provide employees.  Paradoxically prosperity is disaster to you because prosperity means better jobs which drives you out of business

lying when they try to claim they're about jobs.  The Republicans' clientele likes it when there's a weak labor market.

        •  Exactly right. (0+ / 0-)

If we create a strong labor market, say by passing a large infrastructure bill to put the un(der)employed to work, these assholes would be singing a different tune.

Republicans love recessions, which is why they create so many of them. Lower labor costs mean higher profits. Sure, they are all for job creation, as long as it's minimum wage jobs being created.

The answer is to tax the rich more heavily and use the revenue to create good jobs--engineers, scientists, teachers, IT experts. When the restaurant industry can no longer find reliable workers at slave wages, it will start competing for that labor by offering higher wages and benefits, and accepting unions as being useful labor brokers instead of demonizing them.

Really, it all boils down to tax policy.
