  •  Once I got trapped reading the LeStat series. (4+ / 0-)

The books were lush with decadence and uncertainties. I was at once entranced and revolted at my attraction to the story line.

I recovered. Ever since, I haven't found much sparkle in vampirism, except there is some tv series I bump into every month or so with vampire kidlets. Then I'm hooked again.

What is it with the vampire thing, anyway?

That was the first time that vampires weren't just plain scary. So once you take the fear out of it and make it comical ("oh noes ... what if I'm near a mirror??!!??") then maybe it becomes cool?

You got me! I actually find the idea of being a vampire damn sad. It would be difficult to make friends. :)

who would love to be vamps.  It's all about staying young and (they hope) beautiful forever.  Personally, I would really miss FOOD.

became owner of a health food store and started to read up on food.

I had always been prone to preferring food like the brown rice/macrobiotic diet. But that takes forever to prepare if you do it correctly. Then we lived in NYC and had so many good restaurants we couldn't try them all.

However, reading about what goes into food, and the perils of GMOs, has really altered my relationship with food. Few restaurants have all-organic, non-GMO food. So while the food may look and taste good, like the vampire fans, I want to live a long time and age as slowly as possible. This has led me to preferring to dine at home, or with friends who prefer to know what is in their food.

So now I eat less and have less interest in food in general. This has kept me from having to do my former yoyo diets, kept the weight off, and in general, led me to feel much healthier. Plus, now I don't get colds and flu anymore. That's pretty much a win/win by me.

The only reason we are dining out on Thanksgiving is that the restaurant uses local, primarily non-GMO food. My former enjoyment in dining out has definitely been curtailed by my knowledge of what is in other foods.
