  •  My youngest niece is still relatively young (12+ / 0-)

    (late 20s) and she has her credential to be a high school English teacher; she's just waiting to apply for permanent jobs till her fiancé figures out where he's going to be working (he's a wastewater engineer and jobs in that field are very hard to come by).

      While that's terrific, it brings back horrible memories for me of my high school college counselor back in the 60s (when teaching was the only option for women in my culture). She would tell EVERY girl who walked into her office, "Wherever you go to college, whatever you major in, take 18 hours of education in your senior year and wherever your husband is transferred you'll always be able to get a job."

      Not so much now though.

      (I did NOT follow her advice. This is work I know I am not cut out for.)

    •  In California, many pre-teaching credential (0+ / 0-)

      programs in Universities are impacted due to high registration. I talk with students almost every day who want to become teachers!
