  •  I disagree with Robinson and Maddow (8+ / 0-)

We totally don't need the Republican Party.  Let it die a natural death.  The Democratic Party has turned into the Republican Party of forty years ago.  I think the Democratic Party needs to be challenged from the left, not the right, because it is the right.  It's a rightist-centrist party, as opposed to the Republican party which has gone the full Bircher.

A powerful Green party would be handy.

a real debate with conscientious Republicans, but the time for that was over five or six years ago. They've gone too far to come back.

In every country that has a viable Green party, said party started on the local level and worked its way up. As long as that isn't done, the Greens can run presidential candidates until the cows come home and won't ever get anywhere.

Also, Green parties cannot survive in the long run as "the party of purity trolls." They have to become pragmatic in order to be electable by a broad majority. Green politicians who believe they "sell out" if they run on a platform that actually gets them elected get initial headlines, but in the long run, they fall by the wayside.
